About the team

The Compliance Assurance team forms a key part of the Group’s Risk Assurance Function, delivering independent, risk-based assurance for the Bank through a structured programme of thematic reviews, compliance monitoring, and control testing across critical business areas. Testing is conducted throughout the year in line with a risk‑based assurance plan, ensuring that the most significant risks are subject to rigorous scrutiny, challenge, and validation. You will report directly to the Group Head of Risk Assurance, ensuring visibility and impact at the highest level.

 

What you will be doing?

As a Senior Compliance Assurance Manager, you will have the opportunity to support the Group Head of Risk Assurance in helping to develop, deliver and manage a highly professional and effective risk assurance function, including managing, coaching, and mentoring direct reports within the team.

The Senior Compliance Assurance Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering a modern, risk-led assurance approach that provides credible insight over OSB’s compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, control standards, and customer outcome expectations. The role will involve leading and overseeing assurance activity across key risk areas, including material control testing, thematic reviews, and targeted assessments, ensuring work is evidence-based, proportionate, and focused on the risks that matter most. Working closely with the Group Head of Risk Assurance, the Senior Compliance Assurance Manager will help drive continuous improvement in assurance methodology, stakeholder engagement, action tracking, management information, and reporting to Senior Leadership, supporting timely risk-based decisions and strengthening accountability across the organisation.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain a risk-based Compliance Assurance Plan, supporting the assessment of regulatory compliance, control effectiveness, and customer outcomes.
  • Provide oversight for the annual compliance assurance plan, ensuring its timely delivery. Monitor progress against the plan, address any challenges, and ensure that all activities are completed within the specified timelines.
  • Lead and oversee compliance assurance reviews, including thematic reviews, monitoring activities, and customer journey assessments, ensuring clear reporting of findings and recommendations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Compliance Assurance Risk Universe and Assurance Map to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, updating assurance methodologies as needed, and identify compliance risks while recommending mitigation and control improvements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of compliance assurance policies, procedures, and guidance across the team.
  • Lead the tracking, analysis, and reporting of assurance actions, providing data-driven insights, trend analysis, and clear escalation of key risks to support senior decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including senior managers and department heads, to provide updates on compliance assurance activities and address any concerns.
  • Support on the delivery of material control testing, ensuring testing is risk-based, evidence-led, completed to a high standard, and clearly aligned to regulatory expectations, key risks, and control objectives.
  • Provide proactive management oversight of assurance activity, escalating delivery risks, thematic issues, and control weaknesses promptly to support timely remediation and effective risk governance.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders, offering constructive input where required and ensuring assurance activity remains focused on the most material regulatory, conduct, operational, and customer outcome risks.
  • Produce accurate, concise, and insightful reporting for Senior Leadership, clearly articulating assurance outcomes, risk themes, management actions, and the potential impact on the Group’s control environment.

 

 

This role is based in the Chatham office.

Do you have the skills?

We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below:

  • Experience working in a Compliance Assurance, Risk Assurance, Conduct Risk, Risk and/or Internal Audit function at a senior management level within the financial services industry.
  • Direct Line Management experience is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, control management, FCA regulations, consumer duty requirements, conduct and compliance risk requirements, with the ability to interpret regulatory obligations and provide value-added compliance advice on business initiatives, projects, and developments.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with experience producing high-quality reports, management information, and presentations for a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically, in a fast-paced environment, to develop effective compliance assurance programs is essential
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels is essential
  • Experience using data, trends, and management information to identify emerging risks and support clear, insight-led assurance reporting.
  • Strong understanding of assurance methodology, including test of design and test of effectiveness activity for key and material controls.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, provide constructive challenge, and support timely action on assurance findings and risk themes
