About the team

The Operational Risk and Control Assurance Team is a core part of the Group’s Risk Assurance Function, supporting the Bank by delivering independent, riskbased assurance. At the heart of this work is a structured programme of control testing across critical business areas. Testing is conducted throughout the year in line with a riskbased assurance plan, ensuring that the most significant risks are subject to rigorous scrutiny, challenge, and validation. By joining this team, you will be part of a group with a diverse skill set, bringing together varied expertise to strengthen the Bank’s control environment, promote consistency, and provide confidence that key risks are being effectively managed. You will report directly to the Group Head of Risk Assurance, ensuring visibility and impact at the highest level.

What you will be doing?

As a Senior Risk and Control Assurance Manager, you will have the opportunity to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of risk management and internal control frameworks across the Group. Leading independent assurance reviews, providing expert insights into control design and operative effectiveness, and supporting senior leadership in driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement and contributing to the strategic development and delivery of the risk assurance plan, and helping shape the function’s approach to assurance, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

 

Your responsibilities will include…

 

  • Lead Risk Assurance activities by managing and delivering thematic and targeted risk assurance Material and Key controls testing reviews across the Group, focusing on key risk areas and control effectiveness.
  • Provide strategic support in the testing and validation of material and key controls, ensuring robust evidence of control effectiveness support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of first-line controls and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Works independently to lead the provision of risk assurance over a variety of risk disciplines (operational, conduct, credit, and regulatory risks etc.).
  • Support the Group Head of Risk Assurance in developing and executing the annual risk assurance plan.
  • Produce high-quality reports with clear findings, root cause analysis, and practical recommendations in line with the Group Head of Risk Assurance’s expectations and in adherence with methodology.

Do you have the skills?

We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below:

 

  • Proven experience working at a senior level in risk assurance, compliance assurance, control testing, internal audit, or risk management within financial services is essential
  • Demonstrable experience of critically analysing information and providing succinct written and verbal reports of the outcomes is necessary.
  • Ability to work independently to lead the provision of risk assurance over a variety of risk disciplines (operational, conduct, credit, and regulatory risks etc.) is vital
  • Specialist knowledge of assurance methodologies and best practices is essential.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and influence senior stakeholders is required.
