About the team

The Bastion Development Team works on highly secure and reliable platform widely used in banking for core operations. The team comprises of two highly skilled developers deal with development work in AS400 environment, BAU work and support on call activities.

 

 

Please note this is a fixed term contract position for 12 months

What you will be doing?

The core purpose of the role is to facilitate the analysis, design and development for the Bank’s savings, lending and investments transactional banking system (Bastion). 

 

While maintaining a hands-on development role you will also collaborate with and lead a small team of RPG programmers. You will work closely with our Change Management and Testing teams, to redevelop and improve existing functionality in line with the Bank’s Strategy, and with out Support and Admin teams to ensure high levels of service.

 

 

Your responsibilities will include…

 

  • Hands on development, maintenance and support of the Bastion banking application in line with industry best practice
  • Supervising the team including day-to-day team activities, assigning resources, reporting progress, issue resolution and delegating where necessary
  • Working with the architecture and Infrastructure teams to ensure the platform remains aligned to the capacity and strategic requirements of the bank
  • Working with, and advising the project teams and our business to evolve business requirements into designs and solutions
  • Working with Admin and Support teams to ensure continuity of service.
  • Being the primary contact for Bastion development, communicating effectively with business users and senior stakeholders
  • Ensuring timely delivery of developments in order to meet project goals and deadlines
  • Taking responsibility for the creation and maintenance of the technical documentation associated with Bastion developments
  • Line managing and coaching direct reports, including all aspects of performance management, development, conduct, sickness management, appraisals, employee administration and recruitment
  • Work on Incidents, service requests, problem records and change requests within SLA
  • Travelling between the Chatham and Wolverhampton sites from time to time

We offer a base salary depending on experience of £65,000 - £70,000 and a competitive benefits package including:

Do you have the skills?

We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below:

  • Previous work experience as a Senior Analyst or Programmer using RPG Programming Language working in Financial Services
  • Experience troubleshooting application issues by analysing application/data/interfaces
  • Line management experience is essential
  • Strong knowledge of RPG programming language and of the AS400 environment
